Burnaby Canoe Kayak Club offers Sprint Canoe Kayak programs to members aged 7 and up. These programs provide training for both beginner and experienced paddlers in the Olympic sport of canoe and kayak. An annual membership is required to participate in the sprint programs. The membership fees include insurance and membership fees with Canoe Kayak BC and Canoe Kayak Canada.
Sprint paddling is a unique combination of individual and team sports. Participants experience personal growth and develop valuable teamwork skills. It is a great opportunity to spend time exercising outside appreciating nature. From a young age the sport develops balance, coordination and other important motor skills that help promote a lifelong active lifestyle!
All programs are led by Burnaby Canoe Kayak coaches that are NCCP certified. All coaches have Pleasure Craft Operation cards and Criminal Records Checks.
All of our sprint canoe & kayak programs are designed around the Canadian Sport for life Long-Term-Athlete-Development-Model and more specifically are aligned with the Canoe Kayak Canada LTAD Model. Our programs are designed to guide athletes through these stages by first learning fundamental paddling skills and progressively building on these as your athlete moves through our programs! We work with the athletes to find the right training program that fits in with their goals.
Our competitive Sprint Canoe & Kayak programs run year long and are broken down into 4 seasons; Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Winter Season (November - March)
Spring Season (April -June)
Summer Season (July - August)
Fall Season (September - October)
